A New Name in Glory

During the summer of 2008, I heard about a part of the city that housed most of the boarders who worked at the American call centers.  You may have noticed that when you call the customer service numbers for your credit cards, they are usually Filipino’s that will assist you.  Well, this part of the city is known for housing those workers.  I was going to visit one of youth who actually lived in that part of the city anyway.  But he began to tell me that there were many boarders in his area that actually wanted to learn more English, because it would help them in their jobs. Knowing this helpful information, I began to go door to door, speaking English, hoping to draw some attention so these workers would talk to me and I could share them the gospel, in the language that they loved to learn, English.

One of the first houses that I came to was boarding house for some young professionals from Mindanao Island.  I befriended them, and then asked them if could have a Bible study with them.  They asked me to come back next week at a different time, that way all the boarders would be there and they would have time to invite their friends.  So, I did just that.  I arrived there the next week and shared the gospel with about five of them.  I was amazed at their hunger to know more about the God of the Bible.  As I began to share the God’s simple plan of salvation, the Holy Spirit began to work in their hearts, and four of them were wonderfully saved.  They were thrilled to know for sure that their names were written in the Book of Life!

They began attending our church, and began to grow spiritually.  Two of them even got Baptized in the following weeks.  The two that were baptized were Rich and Jopai, they were childhood friends and helped each other out spiritually in many ways.  But a few weeks passed and Jopai moved to another part of the city to teach English to Koreans instead of working at the call center.  There at her new boarding house she began to share the gospel with her new roommates.  She did not realize it at that time, but that started a time in her life when she was on absolute fire God.  She would come to church by herself even if no one else with come with her.   Consequentially, because of her testimony and love for the Lord, her two roommates received Christ also, and are now baptized.  These three girls are now faithful members in the church and serving in any way they can!  To God be the glory what he is doing in the lives of the Filipino people!  What a great privilege to be used of God!

This is the testimony of that girl, her name is Jopai:

It was June, 2008 when I came here in Cebu to look for a job. I lived in an apartment with friends. One Saturday of July, 2008 a missionary named Frank Denisi happened to visit our apartment. He invited us for a bible study. So the following week, he came back to have a bible study with us and that was the time that I gloriously received Jesus Christ as my Savior. I used to believe that it is through good works I can be saved. But Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast.” A week after I received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, He blessed me with a job and good people and friends in church. What a Joy it is to have Christ in you and I want others to feel this Joy in my heart too by drawing them to Christ.
